The Korean company has developed a mini laptop that is charging using solar energy. Samsung NC215S has a solar panel on the cover and is scheduled to appear on the market in August this year.

Samsung wants to develop a clean technology to use it on portables and thus they will not depend on electricity. The new Samsung NC215S netbook is the first mini laptop that will enjoy a solar panel that covers the cap and will fully recharge in about 2 hours using only energy from the Sun. It is a niche that will begin to be exploited in the near future.

The laptop is equipped with a 6-cell battery powered by PowerPlus technology, together providing a range of about 14 hours on a single refill. This model was originally designed for markets in Africa and places where there isn’t that much electricity. I think it would be appropriate for the rest of the world, because to us there are many areas that are not connected to the grid.

In addition to the solar panel, design and specifications are the same as the Samsung NC210 model: Intel Atom N570 or N455, 1GB of RAM, 10-inch display with a resolution of 1024×600 pixels. Samsung NC215S price for the Russian market will be about $500.

Details on Samsung's new digicams launched at IFA have emerged

First up are the Samsung ST550 and ST500 that bring the latest in compact camera
innovation with their Dual LCD screens
. The 1.5-inch LCD on the front of the camera shows the user exactly what the picture will look like, enabling the image to be captured easily, every time. Incorporating a 3.5-inch wide touch screen 1,152K LCD in back, the ST550 delivers almost four times more resolution than traditional cameras and also comes with haptic vibration feedback for ease of use. Complementing this is a 12.2 mega-pixel CCD and 27mm wide angle Schneider KREUZNACH lens with 4.6x optical zoom.

The ST550 and ST500 also feature Gesture User Interface (UI) with built-in gravity sensor. This means that once the camera is on, a simple tap on the front LCD turns it on and the camera is automatically set into self portrait mode with smile detection. Therefore, if users want to take a self portrait, they only need to tap and smile and the picture will be taken, without needing to press the shutter button.

The ST550 and ST500 will be available in India in September for Rs. 25000 and Rs. 20000 respectively.

The Samsung ST1000 incorporates for the first time in a digital camera geo-tagging technology. Added to it is Bluetooth 2.0 and DLNA compatibility and Wi-Fi. Wi-Fi enables users to send and post pictures almost as quickly as they take them, while GPS capabilities keep track of where they’ve travelled and help manage images easily. The built-in geo-tagging allows users to record the exact details of the location and time the image was taken. The ST1000 also offers DLNA connectivity, allowing users to wirelessly connect to other DLNA compatible HDTVs within their networked home to view and share memories.

The ST1000 will be available for Rs. 27000 in September.

IFA 09: Samsung Showcases Corby

Samsung also showcased the Corby, S3650, a mobile phone designed for youngsters.

The Samsung Corby will be available across Europe later this month. It is a full-touch handset that supports Facebook, Twitter and MySpace.

The device represents a complete makeover for the youth segment, with its eye-catching profile featuring two-tone diagonal contours. The Samsung Corby is notable for both its body design and colors – which mark a significant break from the way full touch phones are usually designed. It is available in bold color options such as Jamaican Yellow, Cupid Pink, Minimal White, and Festival Orange so that users can choose their favorite colors.

The Corby has a 2.8-inch QVGA screen and its quad band connectivity and support for EDGE networks means that Samsung Corby users can stay in touch regardless of their location.

Samsung Corby will be available in European countries starting from mid September at approximately 150 EUR.
